MODELS

The making of caps and helmets is reasonably common, however the intricacy and quality of construction varies hugely.
The simplest examples are made from a cut down shell casing, with one side of the rim beaten out to form a peak.
Increasing detail will add a strip of copper drive band, or just brass, as a cap band above the peak, often using General Service buttons at each side to secure it. A cap badge of the makers regiment can be attached, naturally. A further adaptation is to enclose the underside to form a container, often used as a snuff or tobacco box.
Models of German pickelhaubes do exist, but are much harder to make and hence are much harder to find !
