Tanks were THE new weapon in the latter half of WW1, so it is natural that people, both at home and at the Front, would have seen the tank as the defining image of the war.

Making a model of a British tank is not too difficult either. The ridged copper drive bands from shells made ideal tank tracks and the rest can be constructed of scrap brass sheets cut from shell cases. Often they are modelled around a wooden model, with the metal then tacked on.

Models vary hugely in quality, from basic models, such as the example below, to scale models made with an amazing attention to detail and accuracy. These detailed models would probably have been the preserve of Tank Corps personnel, with the time to study the tank exhaustively, or those workers back in Blightly actually building them !

Models of other armoured vehicles, such as armoured cars, are much rarer, being not such a ‘sexy’ subject and of a more complex shape to construct.
